Why Blog? Notes:

Summary: Throughout this article the main topic was all the most vital information that every new blogger needs to know. Becoming good at anything worth becoming good takes time. Blogging is one good way to develop as a writer. A blog is an excellent opportunity for exploring and developing intrinsic motivations for writing. On a blog, you get to have more control over your format, timing, and all other characteristics of your writing. The task of writing a blog and what the subject matter of your blog is going to be is a great starting place. The trick in creating a flow state is to set a task that is neither hard as to create frustration or anxiety or so easy as to be boring. Either way, the experience of blogging will have helped you to uncover something that really matters to you.

Commentary: On the last page of the article the author states “A blogging regimen may seem intimidating at first”. I definitely agree with that because this has been quite a new experience. When you are not familiar with a new database it can cause lots of intimidation in the beginning stages. I was so afraid of the thought that so many people would be seeing my writing because I don’t consider myself a skilled writer. This is such a great way for individuals to not only express themselves in such a new and exciting way, but also learn how to develop as a writer. I have never been a person to enjoy writing, it has never come easy to me. When we were informed that blogging was going to be the style of how we were doing our assignments I was kind of intrigued. The author stated many times about the excellent opportunity for exploring and developing new motivations for writing, I connected to this so well because I never thought this would open my mind to such a new aspect of writing but it did.

Analysis: All the points that the author made were so thought provoking. On the first page of this article I found a couple paragraphs so interesting. He was talking about all the time and effort it takes to become an expert. He even mentions briefly that it takes some 10,000 hours of dedication to become an expert. At that rate, 1,000 hours of writing over four years, one would reach expertise (10,000 hours) in 36 more years. It absolutely boggles my mind at the amount of time it takes to be so knowledgeable in a certain area. I consider myself an expert in certain areas of life but after reading this I definitely don’t consider myself an expert anymore. When it comes to blogging I am going to give myself some slack because nobody can just become an expert overnight.  Another part of the text I want to confirm/expand on is the goal setting portion. It is so important to set an ambitious but reasonable goal for yourself when starting a blog. It is very easy to start losing interest and giving up. But if you set these goals you will have new, exciting posts to write and explore.
