Seeing Ourselves Through Technology Reflection Ch. 1

I loved that this article had a lot of facts backed up from historical time period to now and relating them to help us readers get a better understanding and provide examples to give clarity. On the other hand thought, I definitely think that she added too much information, dates and names into the mix from the historic time point. I feel like that was very hard to comprehend. The information that she provided was great but I felt as if the author Jill Rettberg could’ve left a lot of that historic information out. When she began to talk about the present time occurrences I began to be more interested and gain the most knowledge. I was able to connect to the topic that she briefly discussed relating to females on social media and being mocked for their true character and scolded for “showing too much”. As a female I agree that presenting your character doesn’t need to be done by showing “lots of skin” to attract attention. But I want to touch on the this topic a little more and expand her statements. The fact that it even needs to be mentioned that females get put under this stigma is quite in lack of better words annoying… Expressing your self-representation should never be altered by any such things. I hope that the take-away from this article shows that self representation has always been an interesting thing and that it always will be.
