Reading through “Into the Blogosphere” I of course learned lots of new things pertaining to blogging. The ideas and facts that the author was stating created a lot more thoughts inside my head. In my pervious blog post “Why Blog” I talked about how I always had the misconception that blogging is only for famous and wealthy people, but that of course is not the case. I loved that this article we were assigned to read this week “Into the Blogosphere”, included the fact that it doesn’t matter whether you’re wealthy or not you can still blog and have great success. A homeless individual can go into a public library and blog for enjoyment or to incur revenue just like anybody else. The great feature that is very striking about imagined community of blogging is that it enables users to both experience shared knowledge and to contribute directly.
The fact that blogs are now being used as a platform to find information and tell stories of past events is quite interesting because I would’ve never that blogs would even cover material like that. We are privileged here in America to have access to computers and public libraries.
I love the concept of the ice berg theory because there is a small portion and also a large portion of content that is seen by many individuals that search through public blogs. Depending on the role that you’re wanting to play in the blogging atmosphere you can choose where you land on that ice berg which is great. Some individuals just want to have close friends and family view the content they put out so that would be “under the water” of the ice berg. Others like to have a huge array of individuals viewing their content so they can influence and inspire their audience.
Another huge misconception that I had before reading this article was that blogging only got used by influencer to make a profit. That is totally not the case because “Into the Blogosphere” talks about how some people would just create diaries to share with family or just write for their own personal benefit and not incur any profit from it. There is definitely down fall with some of these situations because journalism may start to disappear and go strictly to online blogging. There are a lot of people that enjoy reading the newspaper or watching a story broadcasted on television but may start getting effected if blogging becomes the way of providing that information.
